Even though season two recently dropped, fans are already eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Netflix's seductive regency romance. Bridgerton, from the novels by Julia Quinn, explores the love stories of each of the Bridgerton siblings as they each come of age and compete for suitable matches. The new adaptation of the series on Netflix may seem like a classic Jane Austin romance, but quickly proves to be full of modern twists and turns. Unlike the poised characters in Austin's books, the Bridgerton siblings fight off a plethora of scandals and grapple with all kinds of regency drama.

In the book series, each book centers around a different sibling's romance story. It seems that Netflix is determined to follow same pattern by focusing on a different sibling every season. For the show's viewers, that means we get to see a whole new array of characters, so even with only two seasons released, it's already hard to keep all the characters straight. Whether you are a fan working on name recognition, or an outsider looking to make conversation, here are a few of the most important cast members and characters to remember.

8 Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton

Netflix

According to London Theater, Jonathan Bailey started his career on the stage, and famously starred in productions like Company. His background working in the Royal Shakespeare Company allows him to fit perfectly into this edgy period piece. Although Anthony is the focus of season two, he does plenty to disrupt his sister's, Daphne's, prospects in season one. Anthony doesn't seem to have any trouble attracting women, but almost gives up on marrying for love. Aside from being charming and handsome, as the oldest sibling, Anthony bares the weight of a lot of responsibility, and has a strict adherence to structure.

7 Simone Ashley as Kate Sharma

Kate Sharma in Bridgerton
Netflix

Kate Sharma was slightly changed for the screen to include a more diverse cast of characters, which is a welcome adjustment that allowed for Simone Ashley (known for Sex Education) to join the set. Ashley flawlessly pulls off the headstrong and responsible nature of Kate's character. Her complicated and somewhat tragic family history makes Kate even more likable and a perfect match for Anthony.

6 Carinthia Chandran as Edwina Sharma

Netflix

This is certainly Carinthia Chandran's biggest role yet, although she has also appeared in Alex Rider (the YA series). Chandran plays Edwina Sharma, season two's most eligible maiden and the subject of Anthony's intentions. Edwina is much more innocent than her half-sister Kate, and is loved for her kind heart.

5 Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton

Netflix

Ruth Gemmell brings to the cast of Bridgerton a rich history of experience, similar to what her character Violet brings to the Bridgerton family, as Gemmell is known for her roles in Fever Pitch and Tracy Beaker. Violet has had her hands full because of all her children, especially after her husband passed away. She is fearless and bold in helping each of the Bridgertons find their perfect matches. All the Bridgerton siblings have their mother to thank for their good standing in society and good reputations.

4 Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton

Netflix

Luke Newton plays Colin Bridgerton, but is also known for his roles in The Lodge and The Cut. Newton is perfect to play Colin's good-natured sense of humor and adventurous personality. Colin unknowingly finds himself caught in the cross-hairs of a love triangle in season two, and may have stumbled into a mess bigger than what he anticipated. Although Colins' love story did not finish until the fourth book, some fans of the Netflix series hope that he will find love in the upcoming season three.

3 Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington

Netflix

Netflix binge-watchers may remember Nicola Coughlan from her role in the great dark comedy, Derry Girls. Coughlan shows off her emotional range as Penelope Featherington in this series. Penelope is the youngest of the Featherington sisters, and as such she usually stays out of the spotlight. Despite being overlooked and teased, Penelope works to develop her talent for writing and has a crush on Collin Bridgerton.

2 Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton

Netflix

Phoebe Dynevor plays the oldest daughter of the Bridgerton siblings. Some will recognize Dynover from her role in Waterloo or her starring part in Prisoners' Wives. Daphne is the central character in season one, but only makes a very small appearance (although somewhat impactful) in season two. Even though the Queen declared Daphne the season's most eligible maiden, Daphne's brother scares off many suitors. Even though Daphne is a little naive compared to some of her other siblings, she is still very socially adept.

1 Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset

Netflix

Fans of the legal TV show For the People will be excited to see Regé-Jean Page take on another starring role (and will want to see him in the upcoming film The Gray Man). As Daphne's love interest, Simon plays a critical part in season 1, but doesn't appear at all in season 2. Even though his character seems to be becoming less important, his name is worth remembering as one of the characters that first drew us in to the show. In season one, Simon Basset is determined never to marry, and is known for being confident (sometimes overly so) to the point, and clever.
