Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) has signed on to direct Bridget Jones' Baby for Universal Pictures and Working Title Films. We first reported on the project back in August, when Working Title gave the sequel a green light. The project was untitled at the time, but this new title seems to fall in line with statements made by Colin Firth in August.

"I can tell you that Bridget and Mark can't have children, I think that's the way it goes on. So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver [Hugh Grant's character] for long enough to get pregnant. And I think he dumps her, and she's left stranded, and guess who comes back to rescue her?"

This has not been confirmed as the actual plot of Bridget Jones' Baby at this time, though. Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant, who all starred in Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, will return for the sequel.

Peter Cattaneo will direct from a screenplay by author Helen Fielding, Paul Feig, and David Nicholls. Paul Feig had been attached to direct before bowing out in October.

Production is scheduled to begin early next year.
