Author Helen Fielding, who wrote the books that the hit movies Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason were based on, confirmed that she is writing a third Bridget Jones book. There are also plans for a movie sequel in the works.

Helen Fielding read three pages of her in-progress novel at a London event a few days ago, and revealed she will be working on the forthcoming movie as well. The plot will center on the title character going through a mid-30s baby crisis. Here's what the author had to say.

"I will be working on both the book and the film, but I don't know if they are the same thing yet. It's not been decided."

Renée Zellweger played Bridget Jones in both Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. The actress revealed last year she would do another sequel if another book was written. It isn't clear if Hugh Grant will return as Daniel Cleaver or if new Oscar winner Colin Firth will reprise his role as Mark Darcy. However, Colin Firth's recent comments to the BBC seem to indicate he is open to coming back for another sequel. Here's what he had to say last month.

"I think the idea of Mark and Daniel and Bridget in advanced stages of deterioration could be quite fun. We're making a comedy, after all."

It isn't clear when the new Bridget Jones book will be ready, or who might adapt the novel.
