Academy Award winner and Marvel star Brie Larson is not sure of her future as Captain Marvel following the release of the upcoming sequel, The Marvels. Appearing at D23, Larson was asked by Variety about her future as the Marvel superhero, with Larson making a dry reference to the online abuse she has suffered since joining the franchise back in 2019.

"I don't know. Does anyone want me to do it again?"

Brie Larson led her own adventure, Captain Marvel, in 2019, which introduces the MCU to the beloved Marvel character after she is separated from her team of Kree warriors and is stranded on Earth. However, her life takes an unusual turn after she teams up with Fury, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

Captain Marvel was met with positive reviews from critics but was quickly review-bombed by online trolls, many of whom had criticized the casting of Brie Larson from the beginning. While some Marvel fans no doubt had genuine reasons for wishing the character had been played by another actress, many of the criticisms were leveled at Larson unjustifiably, with some even complaining that she had not smiled enough during the brief footage shown in the movie’s first trailer.

Larson has commented on the negativity and backlash before saying, "I don't have time for it, you know? The things that I have extra time to really look at are, like, am I eating healthy food? Am I drinking water? Am I meditating? Have I called my mom today?"

"I have genuinely never needed to look at the internet to explain to me who I am. I'm extremely committed to that in my day-to-day life," she continued.

There are still plenty of opportunities for Captain Marvel to return following the release of The Marvels, with the character expected to at least appear in both Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2025. Here's hoping that Brie Larson hears that many fans do indeed want her to do it again.
