It appears that we won't get a Britney Spears encore from last year at this year's VMA's. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Britney Spears' publicist confirmed that the pop star will not be performing at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

"Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year's VMAs," Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager at Jive Records, said in a statement. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."

Last year, Spears' performances of "Gimme More" at the VMA's was one of the most controversial and most-talked about events of 2007.

This year's VMA's will be broadcast live on September 7 from Paramount Pictures Studios. Confirmed performers include Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Pink, Rihanna, Paramore, T.I. and the Jonas Brothers.
