Evil Dead legend Bruce Campbell has further teased that he shot a cameo for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but at the same time, he's casting some doubt whether fans will actually see it. We all knew that it was very likely Campbell would appear in the film at some point once his longtime collaborator Sam Raimi took a seat in the director's chair. Raimi was known for putting Campbell into the Spider-Man films and it seemed only natural to do something similar with Raimi's return to Marvel.

Campbell has teased his cameo at different points, all but outright saying that he was definitely in the movie. Recently, Campbell was at a USO meet for troops and their families where he provided an update on his cameo. Per Redditor tylerjb223, here's what Campbell said during a Q&A when asked about his Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness appearance.

"The deal with Doctor Strange is interesting. A majority of the film was reshot extensively, so I have no idea what's in there and what isn’t. I did a cool scene with a character that's been beloved for years, and… we’ll have to see what ends up in the movie. I don’t know if it's still in there. It's a pretty cool part."

The groovy one has teased his cameo in Doctor Strange previously. Many of Campbell's fans have hoped for the actor to play his Evil Dead character, Ash Williams, as the multiverse elements of the film theoretically make it possible. Campbell himself had some fun thinking about the possibility by posting a (presumably) fake page from the script revealing a meeting between Ash and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange.

Fans Want Bruce Campbell to Bring His Mysterio to Spider-Man: No Way Home

Bruce Campbell's history with Sam Raimi goes back decades when the two broke into the movie business together with The Evil Dead. When Raimi started directing Spider-Man movies, he made sure to put a Campbell cameo in each one with the actor playing different characters in all three films. There were rumors that he would play Mysterio in Raimi's unmade Spider-Man 4, and some fans have theorized that he might play a Mysterio variant in Doctor Strange 2.

In any case, it seems probable that Raimi would have something special in mind for Campbell in Doctor Strange 2. We can only hope that the scene doesn't wind up on the cutting room floor as Campbell says could happen. But at the end of the day, it would be a shock if we don't see Campbell's face in the film at some point by the end of the movie.

Michael Waldron penned the script for the film. Those who we know for sure are appearing in the film are Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Elizabeth Olsen a Wanda Maximoff, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor a Karl Mordo, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, and Rachel McAdam as Christine Palmer. It sounds an awful lot like Patrick Stewart is in the movie as well, even though he's denying it.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released on May 6, 2022.
