The groovy one has found his next role. With Evil Dead Rise now playing in theaters, franchise star Bruce Campbell, who executive produces the new film, has just secured his next acting role. Variety reports that Campbell has boarded the cast of Hysteria!, a show set during the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s. He will play Chief Dandridgeed, a character described as a "small-town police chief whose understanding of his community is put to the test after a disturbing series of murders, disappearances, and unexplained phenomena.”

This will be a recurring role for Campbell on the show, which was ordered to series last fall at Peacock. Other cast members, which were previously announced, include Anna Camp (True Blood), Emjay Anthony (Bad Moms), Chiara Aurelia (Cruel Summer), Kezii Curtis (Secret Headquarters), Nikki Hahn (Adventures in Babysitting), and Julie Bowen (Modern Family).

An official synopsis for Hysteria! is as follows:

“When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the ‘Satanic Panic’ of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported ‘supernatural activity’ triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.”

Writers Matthew Scott Kane and David Goodman are executive producing alongside pilot director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Good Fear Content's Chris Bender and Jake Weiner are also exec producing, as is Jonathan Goldstein.

Bruce Campbell remains closely involved with the Evil Dead franchise, though he retired from playing Ash Williams in any live-action projects after Ash vs. Evil Dead. He has continued to voice the character in video games and has recently teased an animated series in the works. That will help keep Ash alive for the longtime fans of the franchise, though even without him, Evil Dead is still going strong, as the Campbell-produced Evil Dead Rises has already been a hit. It is now playing in movie theaters.

As for Campbell, the actor has also teased that he could be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after appearing in Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He can also be seen popping up on the small screen. Recently, he appeared in an episode of Impractical Jokers for a segment that saw the group recreating Evil Dead scenes.
