Bruce Campbell’s appearance as Pizza Poppa in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness always seemed like a Sam Raimi moment and nothing more. Now in an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Campbell has not only suggested that his character is not just about being Pizza Poppa, but that he has signed a deal to appear in multiple Marvel movies. While Campbell professes that he cannot go into more details, and will already be in trouble for saying as much as he has, if true, this has the potential to lead into a number of fan theories about Marvel’s expanding multiverse.

Bruce Campbell’s cameo role in the Doctor Strange sequel earned him a place at this year’s Comic-Con event under the Marvel Studios banner. While appearing at the event, Variety caught up with the beloved actor to get his take on his Doctor Strange 2 role, which for all intents and purposes seemed to be a throwaway comedy cameo. However, as Campbell went on to explain, it apparently means much more for the wider MCU. He said:

“I need to clarify something. If you think of him as just the Pizza Poppa, you are very, very confused and very wrong. In the multiverse, if he is in one universe he is in all universes, so think of it not as a cameo, but as a building block for the multiverse. Because what did he do? He delayed Doctor Strange for about 45 seconds, what was critical about those 45 seconds that he delayed him? Legally, I can’t even answer that. I’m on a knife’s edge, legally. I can say though, that I put an end to Doctor Strange. Who else can say that? By the way, there are so many things you don’t know. You don’t know that I’ve signed a three picture deal with Marvel, this is not a one off thing, and I’m going to be really in trouble for saying that. But don’t get hung up on Pizza Poppa, he’s not just a pizza vendor. Not even close. They might pull this interview, Marvel doesn’t care, they might shut this down if they see this.”

While Bruce Campbell does like to have fun with his fans, and there is no way of knowing whether everything he says is on the money or not, there are plenty of other rumors and snippets of information to support his comments. Shortly after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit cinemas, Campbell shared an image of himself filming something secret that he couldn’t talk about, but he tagged it with one of the Doctor Strange hashtags.

In addition to this, there have been a lot of rumors about what the multiverse will entail going forward. As Kevin Feige announced the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is clear that things are going to continue to expand in new and exciting ways, and that means there seems to be nothing out of bounds.
