New Line cinema has hired Bruce Joel Rubin to rewrite the sci-fi romantic drama, The Time Traveler's Wife; Brad Pitt's Plan B is co-producing.

The film based on Audrey Niffenegger's best selling novel that centers on a Chicago librarian with a gene that causes him to involuntarily time travel, brought on by stress and bad memories. Variety adds he meets and falls in love with a teenage heiress, but the couple's often out of sync because of his time traveling.

A 2008 release has been scheduled for The Time Traveler's Wife; Robert Schwentke is directing.
