Trying to drum up some favorable publicity for their asinine board game adaptation Candy Land, Kung Fu Panda 2 screenwriting partners Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel are likening this colossal epic to the world of The Lord of the Rings.

Candy Land, which doesn't have any particular backstory or rules of play, is ripe for reinvention and open to a world of ideas. Here is what Glenn Berger and Jonathan Aibel had to say about turning this preschool set game into a J.R.R. Tolkien homage.

"We envision it as The Lord of the Rings, but set in a world of candy. We don't see it as a movie based on a board game, although it has characters from that world and takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on. We are going for real comedy, real action, and real emotions at stake."

Candy Land is moving forward at Universal Pictures and may be in theaters by 2013.
