Sony Pictures has signed Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo to a three-year first-look deal that begins this April. The brothers and filmmakers will develop new projects for Sony and their subsidiaries Columbia Pictures and Tri-Star Pictures. Here's what Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad had to say in a statement regarding the deal

"Joe and Anthony Russo are terrifically exciting filmmakers with a sensibility that matches the tastes of audiences worldwide."

The news comes less than a month after Sony and Marvel finalized a deal to bring Sony Pictures' Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Leaked emails from the Sony hack last year revealed that the Russos were coming aboard to produce Sony's new Spider-Man movie, but that was never confirmed. The Spider-Man reboots hits theaters in July 2017, after the new Spidey debuts in an unconfirmed Marvel movie, which many believe to be the Russos' Captain America: Civil War.

Kevin Feige and former Sony Pictures chief-turned-producer Amy Pascal are producing Spider-Man, but it's possible that Anthony Russo and Joe Russo may come aboard as producers as well, under this new deal, although that hasn't been confirmed. We reported yesterday that Drew Goddard is in talks to write and direct the new Spider-Man reboot, but that has yet to be confirmed by Sony or Marvel. Here's what Anthony Russo and Joe Russo had to say in a statement.

"We're thrilled to make a home at Sony Pictures, and to be partnering with the entire team. The studio has created an environment that is not only collaborative, but truly filmmaker-friendly and we're excited to begin developing both new and ambitious material with them."

Production is slated to begin later this year on Captain America: Civil War, which is set for a May 6, 2016 release date. The Russos are also executive producing an untitled NBC multi-camera comedy pilot from Aseem Batra (Animal Practice). The filmmakers are also developing The Gray Man for Sony, based on on the hit novels by Mark Greaney.
