Earlier this month, Captain America: The Winter Soldier writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed that an early draft of their script included a cameo from another Avenger, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, although he ultimately didn't appear in the Marvel Phase Two sequel. It seems the writers may be trying to put Hawkeye in their next movie, Captain America 3, with Jeremy Renner himself revealing there have been "rumblings" about his inclusion in the Phase Three follow-up.

"There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don't know what's going to happen there. I've got to find the time, man (laughs). I'm trying to stay home and I can't."

It isn't known if Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have finished the script for Captain America 3 yet, but with its May 6, 2016 release date less than two years away, production will likely begin sometime next year, after Ant-Man wraps principal photography.

Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow are currently the only two Avengers who haven't had their own stand-alone Marvel movie yet, so it would make sense to put him in Captain America 3, especially since Black Widow played a major part in this year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

However, Jeremy Renner revealed that his schedule is quite full with projects he's producing and starring in, including Mission: Impossible 5, which he starts production on next week.

"Kill the Messenger is a great one for our company. It's our first one we've produced and it's setting a tone for what we want to do to the public and to other people that want to make movies. Another one is King of Heists that's about the biggest bank robbery in American History. It's very, very exciting. It's kind of like Heat in the early 1900's. It's really cool. And then, there's a Steve McQueen project (McQueen) that's fascinating to me. I love that guy. He's so the antithesis of himself constantly. It's amazing. And then Slingshot is a great rally racing movie. It's again another one with themes of underdogs. But then, I still have Mission: Impossible 5 that I'm going to shoot in a week. And then, Bourne will happen next summer."
