It's looking more and more like Chris Evans is leaving the role of Captain America behind following the events of Avengers 4. We're still set to see Evans, with his fancy new beard, in Infinity war next month and in the final Phase 4 MCU movie next year. But beyond that, his contract is up and it looks like he's hanging up the shield. He's being cagey on details currently, but he's opened up a bit about what he's going to miss when he does leave the role behind.

Chris Evans is currently starring in the play Lobby Hero in New York. The 36-year-old actor was interviewed during the opening night of the play and he couldn't avoid talking about Captain America just a bit. It was recently revealed that Evans doesn't expect to return to the MCU after Avengers 4 next year. Speaking about the future with Marvel he only offered, "Well, you know, my contract is over, so that's as far as I know." Further discussing how he's going to feel after he parts ways with Captain America, Evans says he's literally going to miss everything about it. Here's what he had to say.

"[I'll miss] everything [about Captain America]. I mean, it's not just the character, it's the people, the experience, such good movies, such wonderful memories. I'll miss a lot."

Starting with Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011, Chris Evans defined the character not only on the big screen, but in general. He's since appeared in two Captain America sequels, both of which are considered to be among the best MCU movies to date, as well as The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He's still got two Avengers movies in the pipeline, but that's a long time playing the same character.

With Captain America under his belt, Chris Evans has proved himself as a movie star and should be able to find all kinds of success and new opportunity outside of the MCU. But it's hard to imagine that he could keep playing Cap and enjoy those opportunities at the same time. Marvel movies are time consuming and, understandably, Evans wants time to explore different types of roles, as he explained in the interview while discussing his part in Lobby Hero.

"He's not a good man. I sometimes play, you know, selfless people who are more concerned with the welfare of others than themselves, and that's not exactly this guy. It's fun to explore different avenues as an actor."

The other thing worth considering is that an MCU return may not be up to Chris Evans. It's been promised that major characters are going to die in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. It's highly possible that Captain America will bite the dust and won't be able to come back. Whatever the case may be, it looks like we're coming to the end of Evans tenure as Steve Rogers in the MCU. Entertainment Tonight.
