The much anticipated anthology series What If...? comes to Disney+ next Wednesday. In What If...?, Marvel Studios will explore alternate reality versions of our favorite studios by asking questions such as, "What if T'Challa had been taken by Yondu instead of Peter Quill?"

But perhaps the most anticipated episode of What If...? centers around the characters of Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers. In this episode, it is Peggy who receives the Super Soldier serum and not Steve. She becomes Captain Carter. Notably, she does not become Captain America because she is not American. Steve Rogers becomes Iron Man in place of Tony Stark.

Now, Marvel has released a new character poster for Captain Carter from the What If...? episode via its What If...? Twitter handle:

Captain Carter will be once again voiced by Hayley Atwell, and there is rumor, although unconfirmed so far, that the What If...? appearance could lead into a live action version of the Captain Carter version of her character in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. While it is still an unconfirmed rumor, many fans have expressed excitement over the possibility of seeing this version of Peggy Carter in a live action movie in addition to the animated role.

The Captain Carter version of Peggy Carter originated from a mobile game called, Marvel Puzzle Quest, five years ago. She was added to the game as a part of the 75th anniversary celebration of Captain America. Immensely popular from the time of the character's release to the game, Captain Carter soon made her way to Marvel Comics proper, although in a role similar to her role in What If...? as an alternate reality version of Peggy Carter. Her run as Captain Carter was limited in Marvel Comics; in the third Exiles series where she appeared with the female version of Bucky Barnes from her universe (named Becky Barnes) but it was enough to open the door to the possibility of Captain Carter appearing in What If...?

At a press conference on Sunday, What If...? producer Brad Winderbaum announced that Hayley Atwell's Captain Carter would be in more than one episode of What If...? In addition to the rumored appearance in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Captain Carter has been confirmed to appear in at least one episode per season of What If...?

"We realized as we started developing the second season that Captain Carter was going to be the character who we would revisit in every season and continue that adventure," Winderbaum said during the press conference. "Obviously, we're telling a story on a giant multiversal canvas so you never really know who's going to pop up where and when. It's very much an anthology, but there's always opportunity for fun connections to be made"

It is clear, then, that the first episode of What If...? will not be the last time we see Captain Peggy Carter.

In addition to the character poster, Marvel Studios also released a YouTube video showing Captain Carter and Steve Rogers in action via their official Marvel Entertainment Channel:

What If...? premieres August 11, 2021 on Disney+ and Episode 1 will feature the voices of Jeffrey Wright as Uatu the Watcher, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and Stanley Tucci as Dr. Erskine. This news comes to us from Laughing Place.
