There isn't much we know about the Marvel Phase Three adventure Captain Marvel quite yet, although director James Gunn revealed earlier this month that the character won't appear in his Guardians of the Galaxy 2 sequel. If a new unconfirmed rumor is true, we may be seeing Captain Marvel much sooner than that anyway. Latino Review's El Mayimbe is reporting that the character has already been cast, and will have a brief cameo appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, arriving in theaters May 1. Here's what he had to say below.
"HOT #MARVEL #RUMOR ABOUT #CAPTAINMARVEL #SPOILER Apparently, from what I'm being told, the rumor is that the studio has cast the role of Carol Danvers & keeping it top secret. I'm also being told we will first see her in #AVENGERS #AgeofUltron as originally written in previous drafts of the screenplay. In terms of the standalone film, the Marvel brain trust has blocked out the plot & story with the intention of bringing an established writer to write the script. Comic writer Kelly Sue DeConnick wanted to take a crack at writing the screenplay but I'm not sure if she got the gig. Also, I'm told legendary comic writer Jim Starlin, who has a rich history with Captain Marvel is aboard the project as a consultant. All of the above is #UNCONFIRMED so take with grain of salt until further notice but it's within the realm of plausibility."
It has been long rumored that Avengers: Age of Ultron ends with Captain America (Chris Evans) forming a new team of superheroes. If these reports are true, the new Avengers are Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), with The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), The Vision (Paul Bettany) and War Machine (Don Cheadle). Captain Marvel is the only member of the team that hasn't been established in previous Marvel movies, but her stand alone adventure was given a November 2, 2018 release date at the studio's press event back in October.
As for who has been cast, the actress' identity has yet to be confirmed, but there have been a number of rumored contenders. Jessica Chastain revealed in November that she had met with Marvel for an unspecified role that many believe is Carol Danvers, while Emily Blunt was rumored to be in contention back in December. Vikings star Katheryn Winnick has expressed her interest in playing Carol Danvers on multiple occasions, but it isn't known if she was actually ever up for the role.
