While fans have pegged Jessica Chastain as the odds on favorite for the role of Carol Danvers' in the upcoming Marvel Phase 3 adventure Captain Marvel, someone else seems to want the job just a little bit more. Vikings star Katheryn Winnick is starting to campaign for the iconic and very coveted character, revealing a piece of fan art that depicts the actress in full costume. And it looks pretty convincing.
A fan created the art, which Katheryn Winnick has proudly displayed on her Instagram. While many believe that casting is far off in the future, with the standalone movie not set to hit theaters until 2018, an announcement may be closer than we think.
Avengers: Age of Ultron has long been rumored to contain a cameo by Captain Marvel, and that idea hasn't seemed to changed. Its been confirmed that next summer's sequel will set up a new team of Avengers that will serve their duty in full as part of the Captain America: Civil War storyline. According to reports, Joss Whedon has yet to shoot this sequence, which may be used as the post credits scene. If this is at all true, Carol Danvers will have to be cast by, at the very latest, early next year.
Katheryn Winnick previously entered the Marvel fray when she expressed interest in playing the new female Thor. It's unlikely that will happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon, though. It is a possibility for Marvel Phase Four, as 2017's Thor: Ragnarok will wrap up the current trilogy before the end of this decade. Chris Hemsworth is expected to appear as Thor in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 as well.
Take a look at the fan art and tell us what you think? Is the relatively unknown Katheryn Winnick perfect for Carol Danvers? Those who've seen Satan's Little Helper will probably say, 'Yes, please!'
