Last week, UFC women's champion Ronda Rousey held a Reddit AMA session, where one fan asked if she'd ever consider starring in a superhero movie. The actress/fighter revealed that the one role she's interested in is the title character in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, which has yet to be cast. In the days that followed, Ronda Rousey was sent a number of illustrations with fans depicting her as Carol Danvers. Over the weekend, she shared a few of her favorites on her Instagram page. Here's what she had to say below.
"Since the reddit AMA I've received so many badass Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel edits! There were so many cool ones I couldn't pick just one to share - here's 1 series of 2. Big thank you to contributing artists: @bosslogix (two on right) and @salman.artworks (left). There were so many cool ones I couldn't pick just one to share - here's 2 series of 2. It isn't known if the actress has actually met with Marvel Studios for the role, or if she is even someone they would consider to take on Captain Marvel. Along with dominating the women's division in the UFC, with an undefeated 12-0 record, she has also found time to star in Furious 7 and Entourage, and she just signed on to star in a biopic based on her own life, entitled My Fight/Your Fight. She is also attached to star in an adaptation of Brad Thor's novel The Athena Project.
Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers, made her first comic book appearance in 1968's "Marvel Super-Heroes" #13. She was a U.S. Air Force security chief who is transformed into Captain Marvel after an explosion exposed her to Kree technology. Captain Marvel's powers include superhuman strength and the ability to fly after her DNA was infused with a Kree alien. Given the character's connection to Kree alien technology, it's possible that she could show up in Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, one of the last Phase Three movies.
Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve are currently writing the script for Captain Marvel, but the project doesn't have a director attached at this time. There was a rumor that the studio wants Angelina Jolie to direct, but it isn't known if the actress/filmmaker is interested in taking the helm on this project. Other actresses who have been rumored or have shown interest in the role are Charlize Theron, Katheryn Winnick, Jessica Chastain and Katee Sackhoff. While we wait for any official casting news, take a look at these fan art depictions of Ronda Rousey as Captain Marvel below.
