As you may know, UFC women's champion Ronda Rousey desperately wants to play Captain Marvel in the upcoming solo movie. She first admitted this fact on her recent Reddit AMA session. She then sent out Instagram art, further campaigning for the role. Now, she has a heavyweight in her corner who calls her perfect for the character.

Yes, iconic indie director Kevin Smith wants to see Ronda Rousey suit up as Carol Danvers in Marvel's 2018 sci-fi superhero adventure. Why should anyone care what Kevin Smith wants? They shouldn't, but it's always interesting to hear his take on things. He's well-versed in the world of comic books, serving as the ring leader on AMC's hit series Comic Book Men. And while he's never directed a comic book or superhero movie, he did write the canceled Superman Lives. He's also penned a great number of actual comic books. Some see him as an authority on these matters (though to be fair, some do not).

Kevin Smith loves the idea of Ronda Rousey playing Captain Marvel, which is dumping a little more fuel on the fire. It's not clear if Marvel would even consider such an unlikely candidate. But the drum beat is starting to get louder, and they're undoubtedly listening to fan input. So far, most audience members think she is a terrible choice. But TMZ caught up with the director of such films as Clerks, Mallrats and Tusk, and he gave fans these reasons to consider when dismissing the UFC champ as a big screen superhero.

"You see her in that picture? C'mon. You don't even need to think at this point. There's an image. We can see it. She looks amazing. Lord knows she's one of the only people who would play a superhero that would actually beat the shit out of somebody. I would like to see it happen."

You can see the images in question below. It isn't known if the actress has actually met with Marvel Studios for the role, or if she is even someone they would consider to take on Captain Marvel. Along with dominating the women's division in the UFC, with an undefeated 12-0 record, she has also found time to star in Furious 7 and Entourage, and she just signed on to star in a biopic based on her own life, entitled My Fight/Your Fight. She is also attached to star in an adaptation of Brad Thor's novel The Athena Project.

Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers, made her first comic book appearance in 1968's "Marvel Super-Heroes" #13. She was a U.S. Air Force security chief who is transformed into Captain Marvel after an explosion exposed her to Kree technology. Captain Marvel's powers include superhuman strength and the ability to fly after her DNA was infused with a Kree alien. Given the character's connection to Kree alien technology, it's possible that she could show up in Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, one of the last Phase Three movies.

Should Marvel consider Ronda Rousey for Carol Danvers? Just because she looks good in the suit doesn't mean she can play the role. But she hasn't disappointed in her few screen appearances to date. She has yet to headline her own movie, something that is happening sooner than later. Marvel is known for its interesting choices and out of left field decisions. This would certainly be the most decisive yet. What do you think?
