Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie exploded onto movie screens everywhere back in 2017. Adapting one of the most popular children's book series of the 2000s and 2010s, Dreamworks Studios brought the iconic banned book, and Captain Underpants and his sidekicks to life for animation. It was both a critical and box office success, bringing in more than $125 million USD on a $39 million USD budget. Reviews call it a faithful adaptation to the source material, and one that won't split the family apart. A review from rogerebert.com said that the directors brought the same level of reverence the Coen brothers did to No Country For Old Men, concerning the whacky mix of genres that it put together.

With box office and critical success, most expected an announcement from Dreamworks Studios, saying that a sequel is in development. Alas, that has yet to happen. Dreamworks is currently working on the Epic Tales of Captain Underpants TV show for Netflix, while also announcing a spinoff film for the Dog Man book series, by the same author as Captain Underpants. Fans though, are still waiting on the news for the Captain Underpants sequel. In the meantime, here are some things we'd like to see in that Captain Underpants 2 sequel.

5 Attack of the Talking Toilets

Though the first film adapted the majority of the fourth book in the series (The Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants), it did take other pieces from other books in the series, one being the Turbo Toilet 2000. While the Turbo Toilet is a mere servant of the evil plot of Professor Poopypants, a scene near the end of the film hints at much more sinister plans for the Toilet. While Principal Krupp is on a date with Edith at a fancy restaurant, the restaurants are attacked by sentient toilets (that became sentient due to the toxic waste spilled from the Turbo Toilet 2000). After the attack, the toilets disappear into the world, and the film ends. This seems like Dreamworks is setting up a sequel focused on the devious Talking Toilets, and would be a good idea for the sequel; along with having a tinge of horror thrown in to differentiate it from the previous film.

4 George and Harold's Pet Hamster

In a cinematic world where most franchises have some sort of mascot or cute creature that helps sell toys, the Captain Underpants series would have one of the most relatable pets; George and Harold's bionic hamster, Sulu. Originally belonging to their arch nemesis, Melvin Sneedly (who gave Sulu his bionic skeleton during experiments), Melvin abandoned Sulu after he would not do what he was created to do, for a school science project. George and Harold then came to Sulu's rescue, and adopted him. Sulu then becomes a mainstay for all of their adventures and accidents in later books, and is joined by another pet, Crackers (Pterodactyl) later in the series. The Captain Underpants sequel is expected to flesh out more of the universe, and Sulu should be next on the list to be introduced.

3 The Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space

One of the things Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie did well was mix the plots of the different source material together into one cohesive story, and that trend should continue with the second movie. While the main threat that was teased at the end of the original film was the talking toilets, adding the villains from the third Underpants book, the naughty cafeteria ladies from outer space, would make a fine blend of horror and sci-fi for the sequel. Originally from outer space, the cafeteria ladies get a job at George and Harold's elementary school, and begin to turn students and faculty into mindless zombies, thanks to their recipes. With a more in-depth look at Captain Underpants and fleshing him out more as a hero, along with having aliens and zombies, the third book in the series became one of the more popular entries; and if done correctly, should be used in the sequel.

Arguably George and Harold's (and Captain Underpants as well) biggest antagonist over the course of the book series, Melvin Sneedly, had a bit of a smaller role in the animated film. The creators did show the essence of his character: smart, tech-savvy, suck-up, and just a bully. For the sequel, the creators can flesh him out much more, and build him as a bigger villain for even later films (and even adapt the most popular Captain Underpants story - Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy), and make him the villain he truly can be.

1 A Dog Man Appearance

With Dreamworks announcing a spinoff film for Dog Man, and especially if the film comes out before Captain Underpants 2, an appearance from the canine cop could be awesome to see in the sequel. Audiences currently live in a cinematic world where studios are trying to build and create their own connected universes (similar to the MCU), and Dreamworks could add themselves into the mix by adding protagonists George and Harold's second most popular comic book series into the world of Captain Underpants. Though since Dog Man is a fictional creation from the two, a cameo appearance could be difficult to do. Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is available to watch on Amazon, Vudu, and Google Play.
