Carla Gugino has signed on to play the female lead in New Line Cinema's San Andreas, which reunites her with Race to Witch Mountain co-star Dwayne Johnson.

The story follows a special ops firefighter (Dwayne Johnson) and his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) who make the arduous journey from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their daughter (Alexandra Daddario), after a massive earthquake hits.

Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) is directing from a script most recently worked on by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring). Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore (Red Dawn) sold the original pitch based on a story by Beau Flynn, with Carlton Cuse also working on the script. Beau Flynn is producing with Village Roadshow, although it isn't clear when production may begin.
