Casey Affleck is in negotiations to star alongside Chris Pine in the true story adaptation The Finest Hours for Walt Disney Pictures.

We reported in April that Chris Pine has boarded the project, which is based on the true story of two oil tankers that collided into each other off the coast of Cape Cod, when a vicious Noreaster storm hit in 1952. The plot follows a dangerous Coast Guard rescue mission that ensued after both ships split in half, causing crew members to fall into the sea. No details were given for Casey Affleck and Chris Pine's characters.

Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) is directing from a script by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter), based on the non-fiction book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. No production schedule was given.

Casey Affleck will next be seen in Interstellar and Triple Nine, and he is also prepping his next directorial effort, the Untitled Josh Hamilton Project, which chronicles the life of baseball star Josh Hamilton.
