CBS Films has picked up rights to Alvin Schwartz's short story anthology Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Saw screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton will be adapting the scary story collection. The film will follow a group of outcast kids that face their fears to save their town after nightmares invade their lives.

Alvin Schwartz compiled the stories from folklore and urban legend. The three-book children's series began with 1981′s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and continued with More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark in 1984. Scary Stories 3: More Tales To Chill Your Bones was released in 1991. The books sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.

Sean Daniel, Elizabeth Grave, Roberto Grande, Joshua Long and Jason Brown are producing. No casting or director has been announced.
