Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in talks to star alongside John Goodman in Paramount and J.J. Abrams' thriller The Cellar, formerly known as Valencia.

The story centers on a young woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) who wakes up in a bizarre cellar following a horrific accident. The cellar belongs to a mysterious man (John Goodman) who tells her that the world outside is no longer safe after a deadly chemical attack has rendered the Earth uninhabitable. As tensions rise between them both, the woman must plan an escape, no matter what terrors await her on the outside.

Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell wrote the original script, which was reworked by Dan Casey. Dan Trachtenberg, who made the popular short film Portal: No Escape is making his directorial debut on the project, with J.J. Abrams producing through his Bad Robot company. He was previously attached to direct Y: The Last Man last year, but it isn't known if that project is moving forward at this time. The project will be produced under Paramount's Insurge banner with a budget of around $5 million.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead will next be seen in Kill the Messenger, which arrives in theaters October 10.
