Sony Pictures is in talks with 21 Jump Street star Channing Tatum for the action-thriller White House Down. We reported in April that Roland Emmerich was in early talks to direct, and now he has been confirmed to take the helm.

The story is described as Die Hard set in the White House, centering on a paramilitary takeover of the Presidential residence. We reported back in March that Sony bought the script by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) for $3 million, the largest spec script sale this year. It isn't clear yet what character Channing Tatum will play, if a deal is finalized.

Harald Kloser, Laeta Kalogridis, and Brad Fischer are producing alongside Roland Emmerich and James Vanderbilt. Magic Mike screenwriter Reid Carolin, Channing Tatum's producing partner, will executive produce.

No production schedule was revealed.
