Following the first official poster that debuted yesterday, Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer and two photos for Chappie, director Neill Blomkamp's highly-anticipated follow-up to last year's Elysium.

Sharlto Copley, who has starred in Neill Blomkamp's District 9 and Elysium, lends his voice to the title character, a robot who is kidnapped at "birth" by two South African gangsters, played by musicians Yo-landi Visser and Ninja from the group Die Antwoord, Chappie grows up in this dysfunctional family of criminals. Unlike most robots, Chappie actually has original ideas, and he is programmed to paint pictures and write poetry.

The cast also includes A-list additions such as Hugh Jackman as an anti-A.I. emissary who wants to destroy Chappie and Dev Patel as a young scientist who has a breakthrough that results in an unexpected surprise for his company. Sigourney Weaver also stars, along with Jose Pablo Cantillo and Brandon Auret in what could be one of next year's earliest hits, arriving in theaters on March 27, 2015. Take a look at the first footage from Chappie below, and chime in with your thoughts below.
