Charles Shyer has just been hired by Handmade Films to direct Eloise in Paris. According to Variety, this is one of many planned films to be based on Kay Thompson-Hilary Knight children's book series.

The books revolve around a precocious little girl who lives in Gotham's Plaza Hotel. This particular outing will follow Eloise as she travels to France. Shyer will be directing a script written by his own daughter, Hallie Meyers-Shyer, and her writing partner Larry Spencer.

Shyer stated, "The books consisted of a lot of vignettes, and the challenge is to create a cohesive story. There is sweetness and comedy, but there is also an underpinning of pathos and humanity."

The film begins shooting this February in London, Paris, and New York.
