The Marvel Cinematic Universe has gifted us with so many gems, from Avengers: Infinity War to the hugely popular WandaVision. Netflix's original series Daredevil revolves around Matt Murdock, a blind attorney who also happens to be the eponymous vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen with superhuman sonar vision. While there have been quite a few attempts to bring Daredevil to life in the past, including the film featuring Ben Affleck, none have seen nearly as much success as the Netflix original series. The show has received a great deal of acclaim for its portrayal of Daredevil, but nothing is more deserving of praise than the performance of Charlie Cox.

Known for his roles in the films Stardust and Casanova, Daredevil seems to be a bit of a departure from his usual light-hearted roles. Taking on the dark and sometimes violent content within the series, Charlie Cox has truly built a name for himself as Daredevil. Considering that the concept of a blind superhero seems ridiculous, he executes it without difficulty, creating some of the best action sequences in the MCU. These are Charlie Cox’s best moments in Netflix’s Daredevil.

8 Season 1 Hallway Fight

In the second episode of the first season, the audience is shown the power of Daredevil’s abilities. In one of the most iconic fight scenes of the series, Daredevil must defeat Russian mobsters in order to rescue a kidnapped boy. Matt Murdock, clad in white and black boxing gear with his eyes completely covered, kicks some superior ass in this three-minute, single-take fight scene which establishes his skill as a boxer, which he took up because of his father. The scene isn’t just Matt kicking ass, but it also places him in imminent danger, giving the audience something to worry about. This scene is so powerful that some have considered it one of the greatest fight scenes in TV history.

7 Deciding to Become Daredevil

One of the most important moments of the series is when Matt makes the decision to become Daredevil, but this information isn’t given to the audience until part-way through the first season. After Foggy discovers that Matt is Daredevil, Foggy demands to be told every detail of how he became Daredevil. Matt eventually reveals that, with his heightened senses, he overheard a father sexually abusing his daughter. He called Child Protective Services, but the mother of the girl refused to believe anything of that nature was occurring. Matt later confronted the father and threatened him so that he would stop abusing his daughter. It was this moment that he ultimately decided that the legal systems in place weren't always the most helpful and that someone else needed to hold criminals accountable.

6 Daredevil vs The Punisher

One of the first appearances of Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, is in Netflix’s Daredevil. The damaged anti-hero has taken Matt hostage, chaining him to a chimney with a gun duct-taped to his hand. The two speak and disagree with one another about their methods as vigilantes, with Frank being an unforgiven killer while Matt tries his best to maintain a certain sense of morality, refusing to kill anyone, no matter what they’ve done. This not only displays the differences between the characters, but it places a great deal of emphasis on Daredevil’s morals. This scene also kick-starts The Punisher series, some considering Frank Castle’s presence in Daredevil to be a “Season Zero” of The Punisher as his origin story starts here.

5 Elektra & Daredevil Visit Fogwell’s Gym

This scene where Matt and Elektra visit Fogwell’s Gym, a place in which some flashbacks Matt has of his father occur. The dialogue builds the relationship between the two as they both discover that they each have secrets they must keep from those they care about. They are kindred spirits, and this discussion eventually leads to a passionate sex scene between Matt and Elektra. This level of relationship development is praise-worthy as Matt’s strong chemistry with Elektra is brought to life. When the two of them share many of the same burdens as masked vigilantes, it’s easy to see how they could build such a strong connection.

4 Daredevil vs Kingpin

Daredevil Fans Want Vincent D'Onofrio Back as Kingpin in Spider-Man 3

The series finale where Matt and Fisk come head-to-head is a moment every fan of the show has been waiting for. The man responsible for the suffering of so many is finally going to see justice. Shortly after Fisk’s marriage to Vanessa, Matt and Dex crash the celebration. The fight is so brutal that Fisk winds up paralyzing Dex which leads Matt to beat Fisk to a pulp. Fisk eggs him on by saying “Come on! Kill me!” As tempted as Matt is to bring Kingpin down by bashing his head in, Daredevil remembers who he is and refuses to kill him no matter how much he wants to.

3 Daredevil’s Confession

While this scene is not a fantastic fight scene, it is a great performance by Charlie Cox at getting across every aspect of Daredevil’s character. Reminiscent of his character in the comics, Daredevil’s religion is brought up as an opening scene. He speaks of his family and quotes his grandmother saying “Be careful of the Murdock boys, they got the devil in them”. Here, we see the conflict arise in Matt as he struggles with his relationship with God. Speaking of how his father would “let the devil out” as a boxer, he now understands what it means. At the end of his confession, Matt asks forgiveness for what he is about to do.

2 Foggy Discovers Matt is Daredevil

Foggy enters Matt’s apartment to find a beaten Daredevil on the floor. When he pulls back the mask, he sees his best friend is the vigilante. Foggy confronts Matt about his lies, expressing how betrayed he feels. During their fight, there is no holding back on either end as they both express themselves freely and openly, not often seen in such a hypermasculine setting as a superhero series. Foggy expresses his point of view and how, as lawyers, they should be acting within the law, not outside it. One of the most emotional moments of the entire show, Foggy and Matt’s relationship is tested by the news that Matt is Daredevil.

1 Church Fight

Part of what makes this scene so dark is the fact that it happens in a church. After stealing Daredevil’s costume, Dex AKA Bullseye winds up murdering Matt’s preist, Father Lantom. Sending Matt into a rage until he hears Father Lantom say “Matthew, please forgive us.” This scene is an epic battle where blood is spilt on holy ground and the church is torn to pieces. This could also be seen as symbolic as Matt fighting the darkness within his persona as Daredevil that is threatening to take all good from him. Bullseye winds up beating an already injured Matt to a pulp before disappearing, leaving the injured Matt with Karen.
