Anyone who has been hoping to get a good, up-close look at the characters from the upcoming G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra will soon get their chance, courtesy of prequel comics coming from IDW. Our friends at IESB.net got their hands on the covers of the comics, which give us a good look at the images.
Four of the covers revealed show far give us a good look at Channing Tatum's Duke, Ray Park as Snake Eyes, Christopher Eccleston as Destro (with a shadowy look at his eventual mask) and Siena Miller as the Baroness. A fifth cover is the "Official Movie Adaptation" which has a slightly more cartoony look, but also shows us Rachel Nicols as Scarlett.
IDW describes the first book featuring Duke as follows:
The first of a series of back-stories and secret dossiers on the characters from this summer's biggest action hit! Before he was code-named Duke and was brought into the G.I. Joes, he was the top kick of a special ops team. Join him as he fights his way in and out of a jungle hell in a mission that goes wrong in every way possible.
Issue #1 of the comic hits shelves March 11, 2009.
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is scheduled for an August 7, 2009 release. The film stars Ray Parks, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Said Taghmaoui, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Marlon Wayans, Channing Tatum, Dennis Quiad, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo, Karolina Isela Kurkov, Byung Hun Lee and Christopher Eccleston.
