Showtime is sinking its teeth into a new adaptation entitled Chew, based on the comic book created by John Layman and Rob Guillory.

The show will center around the aptly-named Tony Chu, a federal agent who receives psychic messages from whatever he eats. His talent gets him assigned to the most bizarre cases to solve. Here's what comic book creator John Layman had to say about the property.

"There are a lot of superhero comic books, but there are not many food comic books."

Eureka writers Terri Hughes and Ron Milbauer wrote the adapted pilot script. Stephen Hopkins will direct the pilot episode. Stephen Hopkins directed Showtime's Californication pilot and an episode of the network's latest hit show, Shameless.

David Engel will executive produce alongside Stephen Hopkins. No production schedule was given for the pilot.
