In what might seem like 6 minutes instead of 5, Candace Payne's fame is winding down with one heck of a climax. Hasbro has bestowed one very high honor on the Internet sensation. Yes, she just got her very own Star Wars action figure. The doll was unveiled to the woman in person this weekend, and it is the highlight in her run through the fame and fortune of viral madness.
If you don't immediately know the name Candace Payne, perhaps you will better remember her from a couple weeks ago as the ever-looming presence who became known as Chewbacca Mom. The woman won almost instant admiration from what would literally become an army of everyday fans. Why did everyone fall in love with her so quickly? Using her fine mix of wit and charming humor, she pulled on a roaring Chewbacca mask she had just purchased at the local Kohl's, then proceeded to video herself enjoying it a little too much to the enjoyment of people all over the planet.
We all certainly needed a good wholesome laugh recently, which she delivered amongst a news cycle that has been drenched in tragedy over the past year. 2016 hasn't been a good one, though she managed to provide some levity. So Hasbro returned the favor by creating a one-of-a-kind Chewbacca Mom toy, which was presented to the woman at Facebook headquarters this past weekend. Though the doll looks like Chewbacca from the neck down, Hasbro made a very distinct Candace Payne head sculpt for this ultimate prize.
The smiling doll looks so authentic and lifelike because they molded it from Payne herself, much in the same way the actual Star Wars toys are made from the actors in the movie. The toy even came with Chewy's iconic bowcaster and was delivered in a costume made box, with an image that has both Candace and Chewbacca sharing headspace. It is pretty neat. And is sure to make some hardcore collectors jealous. Especially those who don't believe Candace deserves so much attention.
This comes as the cherry on top for Candace, who has had a very busy past couple of months. She has appeared on both Good Morning America and The Late Late Show with James Gordon, and she was shown attending the Fan Dallas Expo with none other than the real Chewbacca Peter Mayhew himself. She also netted $400,000 in college scholarship money for her kids, and Kohl's sent her a whole bunch of Star Wars merchandise. While getting her own Star Wars action figure direct from Hasbro probably isn't the end of this journey, Candace Payne is getting close to closing out this chapter in her life. And for the always excited mom, it certainly has been one long strange trip.
