The Satanic Temple has accused Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina of appropriation over a Baphomet statue. The giant statue can be seen in the show's Academy Of Unseen Arts, which is where witches go to learn about sacred geometry and the dark arts. The new Netflix series is an adaptation of the supernatural Archie Comics story, and so far, it's been a pretty big hit. Production has already started on Season 2, but the Satanic Temple is not happy about the show's use of the Baphomet design, and they want it changed immediately.

Satanic Temple Co-Founder Lucien Greaves announced on social media over the weekend that he was getting ready to take Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to court over the use of the Baphomet statue. He reportedly has reached out to Netflix, but has yet to hear back about the matter. Greaves had this to say about the hit show using their monument.

"Yes, we are taking legal action regarding Chilling Adventures of Sabrina appropriating our copyrighted monument design to promote their asinine Satanic Panic fiction."

In a recent interview, Lucien Greaves said that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina depicts its image of Baphomet as "evil," which he believes will have a negative effect on the Church of Satan. He believes that the statue was made with CGI, and he wants the producers to remove it. Greaves went on to say that he doesn't want their monument associated with the show at all. He explains.

"I feel that the use of our particular image that is recognized as our own central icon (being) displayed fictionally as central to some cannibalistic cult has real world damaging effects for us."

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Satan character also resembles the Satanic Temple's Baphomet statue. On the show, the Dark Lord is Sabrina's adversary. The statue gained attention before the show premiered last week, with some people observing similarities between the Baphomet of the Satanic Temple and the Baphomet statue used in the show. There are some definite similarities between the two, but they are both heavily influenced by the mid-19th century illustration of Baphomet, with two children looking up at its head.

Netflix has yet to respond to the Satanic Temple's threats of legal action over the Baphomet statue in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Regardless, it seems highly doubtful that the streaming platform will go back into the recently released first season of the show to change the image, or completely remove it. But, we'll just have to see how far Lucien Greaves and the Satanic Temple are willing to take their legal battle. Greaves remains to be confused as to why more people aren't making such a big deal over the Baphomet statue in the show.
