Filmmaker Chris Columbus has signed on to direct The Secret Lives of Road Crews for Paramount Pictures.

The story centers on a group of road crew construction workers who discover they are actually the last line of defense against an alien attack. The project was originally set up at DreamWorks, but producer Adam Goodman took the project with him when he moved to Paramount. Hal Lieberman will also produce for Paramount.

Chris Columbus will direct from a script by Kevin Lund and T.J. Scott. Craig Mazin performed a rewrite, although it is said the studio is currently seeking writers for another fresh take.

It isn't known when production will begin on The Secret Lives of Road Crews. Chris Columbus last directed Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief for 20th Century Fox.
