Former CNN primetime cable news anchor Chris Cuomo had been keeping a pretty low profile since his termination from CNN last year. The announcement came after a law firm’s review of Cuomo’s involvement in aiding his embattled brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Seeking arbitration, Cuomo filed a $125 million lawsuit against the network, alleging wrongful termination. He went as far as calling out colleagues Jake Tapper and “brother” Don Lemon. Now, The Daily Beast is reporting that earlier this year, Cuomo made a dramatic attempt for one more skill to his resume by applying for a volunteer position with the East Hampton Fire Department. However, two people familiar with the matter told Confider that his application was withdrawn a short time after meeting with chiefs.

According to the source, Cuomo, who shares a home with his family in the extremely prestigious Southampton, seemed eager to become a part of the all-volunteer squad but balked at the time commitment. EHFD Chief Duane Forrester told Confider,

“It’s a very time-consuming thing. There are monthly meetings and drills, and you have to meet a percentage of your calls. That’s why we don’t have many celebrities.”

A rep for Cuomo declined to comment.

Besides getting fired, filing a lawsuit, throwing his colleagues under the bus, and following up on aspirations to put out fires, Cuomo recently visited war-torn Ukraine. Donning sunglasses and a helmet, Cuomo returned to Instagram and posted videos of Ukrainian villages destroyed by bombs, spent Russian cluster bombs, foxholes, and Ukrainian troops taking cover behind abandoned buildings. The former anchor posted:

“What is happening right now in Ukraine is bad and America should be paying a lot more attention. I went to the eastern front. Shelling is intense and devastating. Why so little coverage here? Look at the videos below. They should be all over your screens.”

Initially, it was not explained why he was in Ukraine, but by July 4, Cuomo revealed in another Instagram post:

“I was here with my brother Sean Penn who is working on a film showing the reality and helping the hurting with relief org CORE. The interest here has slowed…the war is only accelerating. I will show you more reason to care…soon. Thank you for the interest. Be a #FreeAgent #StandWithUkraine.”

Lastly, the 51-year-old has been teasing “Something’s coming…Summer ’22,” releasing vague promos for “The Chris Cuomo Project” and a merch line with shirts and hoodies which read “FREE AGENT” on the front and “Are You Free?” on the back.
