Steve Rogers refers to himself simply as a kid from Brooklyn, but he is one of the greatest heroes of the MCU. Chosen by Dr. Erskine because of his determination to always do what is right, Rogers became the recipient of Erskine's Super Soldier Serum. The serum amplifies everything inside the mind of the user who consumes it. Steve Rogers retains both his inner strength and moral compass before and after the serum, but with the enhancements, he becomes the Marvel superhero known as Captain America.

Completing his journey in Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers passed down the shield and mantle of Captain America to fellow Avenger, Sam Wilson. Before Rogers completes his journey, he wears many costumes during the events of the Infinity Saga. Here are all of Chris Evans' Captain America costumes, ranked.

9 First Avengers Uniform (The Avengers)

The Avengers is iconic and occupies an important position in pop culture history, but its Captain America costume just does not cut it. After a strong introduction to the character in Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers' costume in The Avengers makes it difficult to take the character seriously. Cap's goofy-looking helmet ruins what would otherwise be a decent costume. Rather than representing the peak of human potential, the helmet makes its wearer simply look ridiculous. If Steve Rogers wore this suit in Avengers: Endgame, the Avengers would not have assembled to defeat Thanos.

8 USO Uniform (Captain America: The First Avenger)

In Captain America: The First Avenger, before fighting the evil forces of HYDRA on the battlefield, Steve Rogers dons a costume to perform on stage and sell war bonds. This is where he is first referred to as "Captain America," a mascot created by the USO during the Second World War. The costume is cheesy, but it also has an appealing design and pays homage to the older Marvel Comics. A leader of Earth's mightiest heroes however, requires a uniform that takes itself a bit more seriously in a live-action film.

7 Smithsonian Uniform (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve Rogers must find a way to fight a HYDRA that has taken over S.H.I.E.L.D. With no Captain America uniforms in his possession, Rogers takes a replica of the SSR Field uniform from the Smithsonian museum. The replica is not a completely accurate recreation of the original suit; there are minor differences between the Smithsonian replica and the actual WW2 uniform. The real thing is still better than the replica.

6 SSR Field Uniform (Captain America: The First Avenger)

Steve Rogers' Captain America is a superhero operating in the 21st-century. But that does not change the first Avenger's roots as a World War II veteran. In the 1940s, Captain America fights Nazis and HYDRA in the SSR Field uniform. There is no suit that reflects Steve Rogers' origins as effectively as this one. Captain America defeats the Red Skull and saves the U.S. from the Red Skull's weapons of mass destruction. However, this requires Steve Rogers to crash a plane into the Arctic, freezing Captain America until he is awakened seven decades later.

5 Second Avengers Uniform (Avengers: Age of Ultron)

After the embarrassing uniform in the first Avengers film, Captain America sports a significantly improved suit in the sequel; Avengers: Age of Ultron. This suit lays the groundwork for the following Captain America uniforms which implement small tweaks rather than being a major overhaul. In Age of Ultron, Steve Rogers steps more into a leadership role, leading the Avengers against Ultron and his army of sentries. The colors of Captain America's uniform mesh beautifully with the other Avengers' costumes, and fits the overall color palette of the film.

4 Third Avengers Uniform (Captain America: Civil War)

Captain America's third Avengers uniform is introduced in Captain America: Civil War and is Steve Rogers' final uniform in the Captain America trilogy. It is similar to the suit featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron, only implementing minor alterations to the previous design. The subtle changes that are made still gives the costume a slightly different feel. These include muted colors, the removal of red accents, the removal of the white stripes on the sleeves, different detailing, and boots.

There is a reason there are only minor differences between the Age of Ultron and Civil War suit. Marvel Studios proficiently represents Captain America both from a narrative standpoint and in costume design. While Captain America's uniform sees major improvements and updates that bring Captain America into the modern era, the uniform continues to be a strong representation of a soldier and a leader.

3 Fugitive Uniform (Avengers: Infinity War)

Opposing the Sokovia Accords and breaking his allies out of the Raft, Steve Rogers is a fugitive before and during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Rogers continues to use the uniform from Captain America: Civil War which now appears different enough to be considered its own suit. The uniform no longer features a helmet, the Avengers' logos, or the star that is present on every Captain America suit.

This is the darkest of all of Steve Rogers' uniforms, featuring faded colors and being unable to hide wear and tear after years of use. Fans connect this version of the suit to "Nomad" from Marvel Comics, an alias used by Steve Rogers when he distances himself from the government while still fighting for the country's ideals.

2 Fourth Avengers Uniform (Avengers: Endgame)

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Captain America is one of the central characters of the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In canonical order, the Infinity Saga begins with Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers: Endgame concludes with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter dancing. The final appearance of one of the greatest characters in the MCU deserves a great costume.

For the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios embraces Captain America's classic chain mail design from the comics. The chain mail scales are exposed and are finally visible in Avengers: Endgame. Captain America wears this uniform when he wields Mjølnir and leads the Avengers against Thanos. The suit that Captain America wears during Avengers: Endgame is one of his best.

1 Stealth Suit (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

Disney, Marvel Studios

The Stealth Suit is the greatest live-action Captain America uniform. Chris Evans also chooses the Stealth Suit from Captain America: The Winter Soldier as his personal favorite Captain America look. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Evans shared:

Stealth suit, without question. The suit in Cap 2, The Winter Soldier, the opening sequence when it's like all navy number. That thing was great.

Unfortunately, there is little screen time showcasing the suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what little screen time it receives, the suit simply looks spectacular. Navy blue and Captain America are a great match. Rogers wears the suit during a mission to rescue hostages with Black Widow, Brock Rumlow, and a tactical team. The costume makes a return in Avengers: Endgame when the surviving Avengers confront Thanos in his garden at the beginning of the film.
