Marvel star Chris Evans finds himself in trouble in the latest behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming festive action flick, Red One. Taking to social media to share several images from filming, Evans’ character, who we now know will be named Jack O'Malley, looks to have been thrown in a dungeon while attempting to save Christmas alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Check out the latest look at Red One below.
“Home stretch on Red One! I’m loving this one,” Evans said in a caption alongside the backstage images, which show the Captain America: Civil War and Avengers star looking all kinds of glum while he sits alone in a prison cell. This is clearly no ordinary prison cell however, and looks like something much more fantastical-meets-medieval.
Directed by Jake Kasdan, with a script written by Chris Morgan, and from an original story by Hiram Garcia, Red One stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans alongside Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill), Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Nick Kroll (Don't Worry Darling), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), and Wesley Kimmel (The Book of Boba Fett), with J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man: No Way Home) starring as Santa Claus and Bonnie Hunt (Jumanji, Toy Story 4) starring as Mrs. Claus.
Despite the sheer amount of behind-the-scenes images that we have been given so far from Red One, plot details are still surprisingly thin on the ground. Johnson has revealed a few details recently however, including that he will play the Commander of the E.L.F., Callum Drift, and teasing that the villain of the piece could be the demonic Krampus.
Here’s hoping that we get a more polished look at Red One soon.
Red One Features J.K. Simmons as a Super-Strong Santa
Something else that we do know about Red One is that Whiplash star J.K. Simmons will star as a superhero Santa Claus. Trading in the belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly, Simmons’ Santa will instead pump iron with The Rock using the super strength he has no doubt acquired from carrying that sack full of presents every year.

Red One promises to be “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre,” and is scheduled to be released exclusively on Prime Video just in time for the 2023 holiday season. The movie is reportedly being planned as the first outing in a potential franchise for the streaming platform.
