Marvel star Chris Evans has shared our first look at his and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s upcoming festive action flick, Red One. The actor took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes image from the movie, and while it is largely made up of Evans’ leading man face, the chair next to him certainly teases the holiday theme.

Alongside the photo of his handsome face and a comfy-looking chair, Evans captioned the image with a simple “Here we go!!” Meaning that filming has now begun on Red One, which will be led by Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans and has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”

Plot details for Red One remain under wraps (or should that be wrapping) at present (now that's far too many Christmas puns), but the idea of action superstars The Rock and Chris Evans sharing the screen is likely to be more than enough to have audiences excited.

Red One will find Johnson working alongside several of his frequent collaborators, with the project being developed from an original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production Hiram Garcia. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan will be at the helm of Red One, working from a screenplay by Seven Bucks Productions’ frequent collaborator Chris Morgan who, much like Kasdan, has penned scripts for The Rock before, having worked on such titles as Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, The Fate of the Furious, Furious 7, Fast & Furious 6, and Fast Five.

Red One has been slowly growing its supporting cast, with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka and Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu joining Johnson and Evans on their Christmas adventure.

Details surrounding Red One are thin on the ground, but producer Hiram Garcia has teased the tone of the festive outing, comparing it to the MCU hit Guardians of the Galaxy. "What I can tell you is that it is a very big Christmas movie. We've always wanted to do a Christmas movie, but we didn't want to do the typical Christmas movies that tend to go a little bit broader, I think, in tone,” Garcia explained earlier this year. “We had been looking for something that matched, the tone and tenor of DJ and what DJ brings to the table, so was able to come up with a really fun Christmas idea, but in tone it's much more of a Hobbs & Shaw, more of Guardians of the Galaxy in tone and vibe because you're dealing with crazy mythological elements, turning a lot of tropes we know about the holidays on their head, but also really big action and globe-trotting"

Red One has not been given a specific release date but is expected to be released on Amazon Prime Video in time for the holiday season during December 2023.
