Earlier today, we reported that Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has signed on to direct and produce a reboot of 20th Century Fox's 1987 action classic Predator. That report also reveals that the filmmaker has met with Thor: The Dark World star Chris Hemsworth to play the title character in Doc Savage. Shane Black was confirmed to write and direct the project back in May 2013.

Doc Savage is reportedly having budgetary issues at the moment, and it isn't known when the project may begin shooting, although Sony Pictures still does consider the franchise starter to be a priority.

During a September interview, Shane Black was asked if he would consider Chris Hemsworth to play Doc Savage, to which he replied, "That's not bad. What is he doing?" Clearly, the filmmaker took that suggestion to heart.

The director stated in that interview that the actor who plays the character has to be a, "perfect physical specimen," who inspires looks of awe due to the "symmetry and perfection that he exudes." He also revealed in that interview that he wants to bring the story back to its pulp comic roots of the 1930s. In the original comic books, Doc Savage was trained from birth to have superhuman qualities, such as incredible strength, a photographic memory and exceptional intelligence.
