As new images from the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa continue to surface online, fans have been given their first look at Chris Hemsworths mystery character. Furiosa goes back in time years before Fury Road to focus on Charlize Theron’s character Imperator Furiosa as she is stranded with a biker horde after being taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers. This time around, the character is played by Anya Taylor-Joy, with her co-stars including Hemsworth, who between rumors, the plot synopsis and today’s images appears to be playing one of the movie’s villains, the Warlord Dementus.

So far there has not been any official confirmation of Hemsworth’s character, nor that of fellow co-star Tom Burke, but like the belief that Hemsworth is playing Dementus it is thought that Burke will play his opposing antagonist, Immortan Joe. With more details being revealed about the movie and set images flooding out of the production, it is only a matter of time before these things are confirmed one way or the other.

In the meantime, the new images of an unrecognizable Hemsworth show the Thor actor looking almost as much of a Norse warrior as in his Marvel gig, but this time trading his blond locks for red hair and a big beard. Other than that, Hemsworth’s character’s costume cannot be seen under the coat he is wearing between takes, but you can check out his fierce new look in the images below.

Furiosa Will Be As Epic In Scope As Any Max Max Movie

Warner Bros. Pictures

The Mad Max franchise lay dormant for a long time after 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, but thirty years later Mad Max: Fury Road ignited the franchise in a way that few expected bringing the post-apocalyptic world to a whole new audience. Now with Furiosa, George Miller is going to deliver a new story in the Mad Max saga that will span a number of years. Miller previously said:

"I’ll tell you how it’s going when it’s finished, but it has got off to a lovely start. All I can say about my excitement about doing it is that it’s definitely exciting, because even though it’s certainly of that world of Fury Road, it’s also got a lot of the differences we’ve been talking about. Again, it’s uniquely familiar. And probably the biggest difference is the timespan. Fury Road happened over three days and two nights and this one happens over 15 years. So, it’s a saga."

Furiosa’s official synopsis reads: "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

Although Furiosa is already filming, the movie is going to be arriving too quickly, and is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 24, 2024.
