We reported back in April that Universal had set a release date for the first film in The Night Chronicles and now a writer has been hired for the second film. Deadline New York is reporting that Chris Sparling has been hired to write The Night Chronicles: Twelve Strangers, the second film in M. Night Shyamalan's The Night Chronicles film series.

Sparling is the screenwriter behind the Rodrigo Cortés Sundance sensation Buried, which stars Ryan Reynolds and will be released on October 8. This new film was said to revolve around a group of twelve jurors deliberating in a case that involves supernatural elements.

The first film in Shyamalan's series, The Night Chronicles: Devil, written and directed by John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, will be released on February 11, 2011. The three-year deal Shyamalan made with Media Rights Capital calls for a film to be released each year.

Deadline New York is also reporting some new details on Shyamalan's new film project that we reported on two days ago, which will reportedly star Bruce Willis, Bradley Cooper and Gwyneth Paltrow. The site is reporting that Cooper will play, "a father on a desperate search for his missing child."

We'll be sure to keep you posted on both of these projects as soon as we have more information.
