Christian Slater has signed on to star in director Lars von Trier's erotic drama The Nymphomaniac.

The story, told through eight different chapters, centers on Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and her life as a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac. The plot follows her from birth until the age of 50. Christian Slater will portray Joe's father. Stellan Skarsgård also stars as Seligman, a man who Joe tells her sexual adventures to after he finds her beaten in an alley. The cast also includes Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, and Connie Nielsen.

Lars von Trier is directing from his own original screenplay, with Louise Vesth producing. Shooting is already under way in Cologne, Germany.

Christian Slater last starred in the Fox comedy series Breaking In, and will next be seen in Bullet to the Head alongside Sylvester Stallone.
