Christina Ricci’s appearance as Wednesday Addams in the 1990's The Addams Family and its sequel is still one of her most memorable movies, and that is one of the reasons that fans are happy to see her returning to the franchise in new Netflix series Wednesday. However, this time around, she is not playing the sadistic and dour daughter of Morticia and Gomez but will star in a new, currently undisclosed role. But just being part of the production is enough for most, and for Ricci, it was something she was honored to do after being personally asked to join the show by director Tim Burton.

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, and puts a new spin on the Addams Family character while also honoring both the original comic strip from The New Yorker and the previous iterations of the characters that have been seen on screen. The inclusion of Ricci adds another level to the series, which is set to debut on Netflix this Fall, and for Ricci returning to be part of it was something she loved and could not have turned down. She told Collider:

“It's Tim Burton, I was so honored to be asked by him because he is just, you know, a genius. And then also to be a part to be asked to be a part of the new version of this thing that is a huge part of my identity and my history in my life. I mean, I know they didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts, but I was really touched by it, and I felt like it was very nice. And it's such a fun world, and my character is outrageous and fun and different than anything I've done, and it was really great. And I just had a really lovely experience on that with Jenna, who is amazing, and I think now people have a taste of her Wednesday, and it's gonna be fantastic."

The new iteration of Wednesday has already been given the seal of approval by Ricci, and that has gone a long way to building excitement for the series. Jenna Ortega seems to be looking forward to fans seeing her version of the iconic character, and she previously talked about how she has loved being part of the show’s production and just hopes that she has done the character justice. She said:

"It’s been quite an insane experience. I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with an iconic director who just so happens to be one of the sweetest directors I’ve worked with, and also the most detail-oriented. To step into the shoes of somebody who’s a bit more eccentric and frightening has been really exciting for me, and definitely a challenge — especially with such a beloved character, I really want to take care of her and do her justice. I think it’s probably the most physical transformation I’ve ever done; I cut my hair, and it’s black, and mannerism-wise, speaking cadence-wise, expression-wise, I’m trying to pull from a different toolbox this time around. I think it’s a surprise to the audience, but myself as well."
