Fans have eagerly awaited the second season of the Showtime series Yellowjackets since the first season concluded earlier this year. The show follows a high school girl's soccer team who survives a plane crash deep in the Canadian wilderness. The series is described as a psychological horror, starring Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sophie Thatcher, and Christina Ricci.

The second season of Yellowjackets began production earlier this month, meaning audiences can expect to see the series sometime in 2023. But, of course, in a show as mysterious as this, speculation, rumors, and theories are bound to run wild in the time between seasons. Christina Ricci, who plays Misty in Yellowjackets, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, discussing the series and claims the second season will surpass the first.

"I mean I just think the character's so fun, Misty is so fun, and to see her in different scenarios and explore it more deeply, her psyche, I think is fun. And you know I've seen the first two scripts now for season two, and they're f*****g crazy, and it's going to be better than season one. From reading it I was like 'Oh my god. This is going to be insane.' So I'm pretty excited."

If you haven't seen the mysterious new thriller, you can watch Yellowjackets, available now on Showtime.

A plane crash, flash-backs and flash-forwards, and an overarching mystery with plenty of drama. Does any of that sound familiar? If so, you may have been a big fan of Lost. The series, which ran from 2004 to 2010, follows the survivors of Oceanic 815 as they crash on a mysterious island, following their journeys across six seasons. Christina Ricci has noticed the apparent parallels between Yellowjackets and the series which aired on ABC, saying, "I mean the only thing it reminds me of as a viewer is Lost, really."

"It’s really fun, I mean the only thing it reminds me of as a viewer is Lost really. You know where like everything was a clue, and anytime there was a new cast - you know what I mean - I love that show too. I was obsessed. So it reminds me of that which I think is really cool because having been a fan of that show, it was the best thing ever to these tidbits and the mystery, and so I love being a part of something that it’s super fun. But I’m always like, it also makes you very nervous as a participant that you’re going to say something that you’re not supposed to, so it can be a little stressful."

One new cast member that's already been announced is Elijah Wood, known for his work as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, he won't be a hobbit in the upcoming season, as he's set to play a detective named Walter. According to a report from Variety, he will challenge Christina Ricci's Misty in ways she won't see coming.

Fans can find more about Wood's character and the storyline of season two as Yellowjackets swings into production, with filming currently taking place.
