Our first look at The Christmas Chronicles 2 features Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Netflix came up with an unexpected hit when they brought Russell on to play Santa Claus last year. The response was so great that the streaming platform had to start working on a sequel, which will have Harry Potter director Chris Columbus on board to helm the project. Though the original movie arrived with some mixed reviews, it was quickly embraced by holiday movie enthusiasts.

Goldie Hawn was briefly shown in The Christmas Chronicles, but it looks like she may have a larger part in the upcoming sequel. As for the storyline, we'll see Kate Pierce - now a cynical teenager - unexpectedly reunited with Santa Claus when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel threatens to destroy Christmas forever. Other than that, there's not a whole lot of information about The Christmas Chronicles 2 available at this time. With that being said, a lot of the original cast are returning for the holiday movie.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell first met in 1966, but did not start dating until the early 1980s. They have been together ever since and they were apparently great to work with while making The Christmas Chronicles 2. "There's a tremendous amount of respect there and a tremendous amount of love and trust, partially because they've been together for so long," says director Chris Columbus. "They just get along beautifully." Hawn's son from another marriage, Oliver Hudson, had a role in the first installment as the father of the two lead characters. As for his return, Columbus played coy when asked if Oliver or any of his other famous siblings will take part in the sequel.

The Christmas Chronicles 2 sees the return of Darby Camp as Kate, Kimberly Williams Paisley as Claire, and Judah Lewis as Teddy. New additions to the cast include Julian Dennison as Belsnickel and Jahzir Bruno as Jack. Chris Columbus is on board to direct and produce, alongside Mark Radcliffe and Michael Barnathan. Columbus co-wrote the story with Matt Lieberman. Belsnickel is described as "a crotchety, fur-clad Christmas gift-bringer figure," who is supposed to be a pretty scary character, though not quite as scary as Krampus.

Netflix has not yet set a release date for The Christmas Chronicles 2, but one can imagine that it will land on the streaming service next November to prepare for the Christmas season. The first installment generated an estimated 20 million viewers within its first week, which practically guaranteed that a sequel was going to be made at some point. Bringing Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn was a good idea and the upcoming sequel will more than likely show off more of the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The Netflix See What's On Next Twitter account was the first to reveal the image of Russell and Hawn.
