Sadly, the legendary actor died in 2015 at the age of 93, but his spirit has been kept alive with the fans coming together to pay tribute. With his 100th birthday rolling around, Lee has been getting an exceptional amount of love online with tribute posts coming in friends as well as from fans all across the world, resulting in the actor's name trending on social media.
"Remembering my friend Christopher Lee who would have been 100 today," tweeted Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, including a photo of himself with Lee.
"Today would have been the 100th birthday of Christopher Lee, one of my favourite actors and a legendary gentlemen of horror," writes a fan, including some photos of the actor. "Still missed but what a legacy to leave behind!"
Another fan stated, "Happy birthday to another of my favourite actors of all time, the legendary last of the true gentlemen of horror, and a man who has as many impressive personal achievements as he does acting roles, the iconic Sir Christopher Lee (R.I.P)"
"Christopher Lee wasn't just an exceptional actor; he was an exceptional man," says someone else. "Anyone who's not familiar with some of the stuff he accomplished and witnessed really ought to be."
And an artist tweeted an image of some fitting artwork that was created for Lee shortly after the news of his death was announced in 2015. The artist writes, "Christopher Lee would have been 100 years old today. Absolutely legendary human being. I'm sad that this was the only time I painted him back in 2015 when he passed. He has such a great face for painting."
Christopher Lee Shares a Birthday With Another Horror Legend
Many horror fans are particularly fond of Christopher Lee's take on Dracula, and his performance is widely considered to be among the very best ever for that character. Lee also just so happens to share a birthday with Vincent Price, another icon of the genre. The day also marks what would have been Price's 111th birthday, and he has also been getting a lot of attention for the occasion with horror fans giving praise to them both. Peter Cushing, whose birthday was the day prior, has similarly been trending.
"Gods once strode the earth. Today would've been Christopher Lee's 100th birthday," says one tweet that includes an image of all three actors.
And a tweet from Killer Horror Critics reads: "Happy birthday to the gone but never forgotten legends of horror, Christopher Lee and Vincent Price! Eternally grateful that these brilliant actors were so involved with the genre and continue to inspire fans all over the world."
