Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie put an end to months of speculation with a simple tweet that confirmed he is directing Mission: Impossible 5.

Then, in May, when {6} was {7} for the action sequel, the filmmaker's name was mentioned again, but it wasn't known if an offer was made at that time.

Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) signed on to write the screenplay back in May. It isn't known if Christopher McQuarrie will rewrite the draft, or bring another writer on board at this time

Tom Cruise is also producing alongside J.J. Abrams and David Ellison. It isn't known when production may begin. Christopher McQuarrie also worked on the script for Tom Cruise' sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow.
