Both Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren have signed onto the upcoming film The Last Station. According to Variety, the film is based on Michael Hoffman's Leo Tolstoy biopic of the same name.
The two actors will be replacing the previously announced pairing of Anthony Hopkins and Meryl Streep in the roles of Tolstoy and his wife, Sofia. Also joining the cast are James McAvoy and Paul Giamatti.
The film will follow the harsh final year in the life of Russian writer Tolstoy and his above mentioned wife. The film is set to begin production on April 4th in Saxony-Anhalt as well as the German states of Brandenburg and Thuringia, the city of Leipzig and at historical locations in Russia. The film will first be released in Germany sometime in early 2009.
