Joblo led us to a blog posting on Chuck Palahniuk's official website from last week where the author unveiled the news that Rant has finally been optioned for a big screen adaptation. At this time, Palahniuk has little else to offer in the way of who is behind producing this sure to be classic film.

Rant is an oral biography of one Buster Casey. Here is a description of the novel from Amazon: Buster "Rant" Casey just may be the most efficient serial killer of our time. A high school rebel, Rant Casey escapes from his small town home for the big city where he becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing. Rant Casey will die a spectacular highway death, after which his friends gather the testimony needed to build an oral history of his short, violent life. With hilarity, horror, and blazing insight, Rant is a mind-bending vision of the future, as only Chuck Palahniuk could ever imagine.

I am also informed that Buster Casey likes to infect himself with rabies. Why that little bit of information is left out of Amazon's description is beyond me. The narrative is told through a series of first person accounts made to look like a set of interviews collected by the author. It will be interesting to see how they make that work on film.

In his blog post, Chuck relates the news that the film is being produced by a film industry friend that wishes to remain anonymous at the moment. Rant is currently in the early stages of development, and Palahniuk will update his blog when more news comes forth.

Obviously, Rant does not have a set start date at this time.
