According to Deadline, Lara Jean Chorostecki has just been tapped for a recurring role on the second season of USA Network and Syfy’s Chucky. The show was created by Don Mancini who, either by himself or with others, wrote all the Child’s Play/Chucky films sans the remake and is executive produced by Nick Antosca, the creator of Channel Zero.

Chorostecki will be joining Brad Dourif as Chucky, Fiona Dourif as Nica Pierce/Chucky, Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany Valentine, Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay, and Elise McCarthy as Kyle, all returning from the films. In addition to the newcomers to the franchise, including Zackary Arthur as Jake Wheeler, Alyvia Alyn Lind as Lexy Cross, Bjorgvin Arnarson as Devon Evans, and Devon Sawa as a new character.

Previously Chorostecki and Mancini have worked together on the show Hannibal, starring Mads Mikkelsen. Chorostecki played Freddie Lounds, a gender-flipped version of the reporter character previously played by Stephen Lang and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the film. Mancini wrote two episodes during the show’s third and final season, entitled “Dolce” and “...And the Woman Clothed in Sun” respectively.

Most recently, Chorostecki has appeared in the Amazon Prime original series Reacher and Guillermo Del Toro’s version of Nightmare Alley. Other credits include being a series regular in X Company and recurring in Camelot, The Expanse, Designated Survivor, and Copper. She also acts on stage, such as appearing in Peter Hinton’s The Swanne as Drina.

Who Will Chorostecki Be?

Glen-and-Glenda-in-Seed-of-Chucky

While the details on the character Chorostecki will ultimately play are currently scarce, the actress’ red hair and blue eyes suggest she might be playing someone related to the eponymous killer doll would be a logical guess. A character that both Manci and Tilly have teased the return of.

Way back before Jake and associates were being terrorized by a doll possessed by a serial killer, Chucky was experiencing the joys of fatherhood to two offsprings within one doll body, “a bonafide bonus baby.” The ending of Seed of Chucky saw them each getting their own human body and left their fates unrevealed, though one of the twins was in seemingly dire straits at the hands, or rather hand, of their father.

One half of the duo was the “genda flooid” Glen, voiced by Billy Boyd and played by Beans El-Balawi, aka Shitface, who was a sweet person who wouldn’t even hurt a fly. While previously played by men, it wouldn't be the first time the series has had a woman play a male character. Glen’s twin Glenda, voiced by Boyd and played by Kristina Hewitt, took after their parents. Best shown when she “fired” a film agent.

Previously it’s been speculated by fans that Jake’s biology teacher Rachel Fairchild, played by Carmilla’s very own Annie Briggs, is one of the now-adult twins. Fairchild notably has red, curly hair and a foul mouth like Glenda, but she’s also sweet and compassionate like Glen. Season one ended without a confirmation one way or the other.

Could Chorostecki be playing the seed of Chucky? If so, which one? Maybe it depends on whether Chorostecki is willing to go through the hassle of a 2-hour hair curling process like in Hannibal. Or she could just be playing a red herring or even a new character. Again, this is just pure speculation at this point. As of now, it seems fans and viewers will just have to tune in to find out.
