Cinema Libre Studio has acquired North American rights to The Sons of Buena Vista, Wim Wenders' sequel to 1999's Buena Vista Social Club, which was nominated for an Academy Award as best documentary.

The film, directed by German Kral and produced by Wenders, will be released in the summer in the U.S. In the feature-length docudrama, Pio Leyva, the singer and composer who also appeared in the first film, introduces the next generation of Cuban musical talent. Leyva died of a heart attack Thursday in Cuba.
