Almost exactly five years after it was first announced back in 2009, StudioCanal is moving forward with their Cliffhanger reboot, bringing on screenwriter Joe Gazzam to write the script.

The original Cliffhanger, which was released in 1993, starred Sylvester Stallone as Gabe Walker, a traumatized mountain climber who is forced back into action to search for piles of stolen cash in the Rocky Mountains after a failed mid-air heist attempt results in a plane crash. John Lithgow, Michael Rooker and Caroline Goodall co-starred in the action-thriller, which earned over $255 million worldwide from a $70 million budget.

Neal H. Moritz and Ori Marmur are producing through his Original Films company. The project doesn't have a distirbutor yet, but since the producer's company is set up at Sony Pictures, the studio will likely have the first crack at landing the project.

Joe Gazzam's original spec script Shadow Run was picked up by Sony Pictures, with Original Films developing the project.
